============================================================================== Qwaderton Free and Bloatless Software License (QFBL), Final Version 1.0 ============================================================================== Copyright (c) [Year] [Author] and [Project Name] contributors Permission is hereby granted to any entity obtaining a copy of this software and associated documentation files (the "Work"), to use, copy, modify, distribute, and sell copies of the Work, subject to the following conditions: 0. Definitions: "Work" means the software, documentation, and associated files provided under this License. "Target System" means the underlying operating system, kernel, hardware architecture, runtime environment, and standard system libraries natively provided by the platform manufacturer or operating system vendor on which the Work is intended to execute. "Corresponding Source" means all the source code needed to generate, install, build, and run the Work, including interface definition files, build scripts, toolchain configurations, and system templates required for complete compilation and execution. Corresponding Source does not include standard system libraries or components natively provided by the Target System itself. "Convey" means to copy, distribute, publish, host, deploy, or otherwise make available the Work or its functionality to third parties, whether via direct download, physical media, or over a remote computer network (such as Software as a Service, Cloud, or API deployments). "Derivative Work" or "Modification" means any modification, extension, port, translation, or work based upon the Work that incorporates any portion or unified whole thereof. 1. Patent Grant & Retaliation: Each contributor grants you a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, no-charge patent license to make, have made, use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer the Work, limited strictly to those patent claims licensable by such contributor that are necessarily infringed by their contribution(s) alone or in combination with the Work. If you institute patent litigation against any entity (including a cross-claim or counterclaim in a lawsuit) alleging that the Work or a contribution incorporated within the Work constitutes direct or contributory patent infringement, then any patent and copyright licenses granted to you under this License for that Work shall terminate as of the date such litigation is filed. 2. Redistribution, Network Copyleft & Source Availability: Any copies, derivative works, or substantial portions of the Work must retain the above copyright notice, this patent grant, and this permission notice, and must be licensed as a whole under the terms of this exact License. Each recipient directly receives a license from the respective licensors and contributors to run, modify, and convey the Work subject to these terms. If you distribute the Work (or derivative works), OR if you convey access to its functionality to remote users over a computer network (such as Software as a Service or cloud deployments), you must simultaneously provide a publicly accessible, unencumbered, and direct means (such as a public repository or direct download) to obtain the complete Corresponding Source code and build scripts of the running Work or modification. 3. Local Autonomy & Architectural Integrity: Modifications to the Work must not remove, obscure, bypass, or disable the code or capability of the Work to execute its standalone functions locally on the Target System without requiring an active internet connection or external server validation. If a feature inherently requires remote network interaction, it must be capable of fully functioning using self-hosted, decentralized, or publicly documented open-protocol endpoints. The Work shall not enforce mandatory reliance on proprietary third-party cloud infrastructure or vendor-locked remote APIs. Execution of the Work must not be artificially restricted by hardware gating, Target System or coprocessor locks, or mandatory subscription checks. Any telemetry, analytics, or remote data collection built into the Work must remain completely opt-in and require explicit consent. Modifications must keep telemetry disabled by default in the distributed source code, configurations, and build artifacts, and must not remove or obscure user controls that allow disabling telemetry. 4. Standard Formats & Openness: Modifications to the Work must not restrict data storage or interchange to proprietary, secret, or patent-restricted formats. Custom formats or data structures comply with this License only if they are based on an unencumbered public specification OR accompanied by open schemas, source code definitions, and a royalty-free patent grant, allowing independent third-party software to parse and convert the data without reliance on proprietary tools. 5. Build Transparency & Toolchain Independence: Modifications to the Work must remain fully buildable, compilable, and executable locally on the intended Target System, target architecture, or target hardware using unencumbered, publicly-available, open-source and non-proprietary toolchains and build scripts. A modification violates this clause if it physically requires: (a) Mandatory reliance on proprietary external build pipelines, closed SaaS builders, or proprietary cloud services; OR (b) Vendor-locked, proprietary toolchain forks, closed-source hardware abstraction layers (HALs), or binary-only startup blobs that are not natively provided as standard platform components of the Target System and are not available as open-source code or merged into upstream standard toolchains (such as upstream GCC, LLVM, or standard open-source tools). System Libraries & Operating System Exception: Standard system libraries, kernel interfaces, platform SDKs, and runtime drivers natively provided by the underlying Target System or operating system vendor are excluded from the prohibitions of this clause, provided they are general-purpose components of the Target System and not created specifically to circumvent the build transparency or open-source requirements of this License. The build environment, source code, execution, and local configuration must remain transparent, fully reproducible, and independent of any single vendor's proprietary ecosystem. 6. Mark Modifications: Any modified versions of the Work must be explicitly marked as modified. Modified code must include a prominent notice in both the source code and user-facing interfaces stating that the original Work was altered. Modified versions must not use the original author's or project's trademarks or names in a manner that implies official endorsement. 7. Permissive Boundaries & Upstream Non-Contamination: Inclusion of third-party components under permissive licenses (e.g., MIT, Apache 2.0, BSD) within the Work is permitted, provided their terms are respected. Any unified derivative work derived from this Work remains subject to this License as a whole. However, to prevent involuntary license contamination, modifications, patches, or additions created specifically for incorporation into an external permissive upstream project shall not force that upstream project as a whole to adopt this License. Such isolated contributions, patches, or pull requests may be re-licensed or provided under the target upstream project's permissive terms, ensuring this License cannot be used to aggressively overwrite permissive licensing in independent external codebases. This exception applies strictly and exclusively to the isolated contribution submitted to the external project and shall not grant any right to re-license the unified Derivative Work or the Work as a whole under permissive terms. 8. Termination & Cure Period: Any rights granted hereunder shall terminate automatically upon failure to comply with the terms of this License. If you cure the violation within 30 days of receiving written notice of non-compliance from an affected copyright holder, your rights shall be provisionally reinstated and permanently restored, provided that the affected copyright holder has not initiated formal legal action regarding the breach prior to the expiration of the 30-day cure period. 9. No Surrender of Freedom: If a court order, statute, regulation, or external agreement prevents you from fulfilling all obligations of this License (such as requiring you to withhold Corresponding Source code or enforce mandatory DRM), you are not excused from this License. If you cannot distribute or convey access to the Work in full compliance with these terms, you must cease distributing or conveying access to the Work entirely. 10. License Text Terms: This License text itself is protected by copyright. You may copy and distribute verbatim copies of this License. However, if you modify this License text to create a derivative license, you must remove all references to "Qwaderton Free and Bloatless Software License" and "QFBL". DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY & LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: THE WORK IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE WORK OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE WORK. SEVERABILITY: If any provision of this License is held to be invalid or unenforceable, such provision shall be enforced to the maximum extent permissible, and the remaining provisions of this License shall remain in full force and effect.
